What type of base images are available?

I downloaded one of the Eucalyptus-certified Images (from the Admin screen) and used it when I created my first image. Is it the only way to create a new image? I see only 8 different certified image files on the admin screen's "Extra" option. Does it mean that we can only create instances based on those 8 type of OS architecture?

absolutely not, but it's the easier way to test a Eucalyptus installation since those images have proven to be fairly reliable. You can read the documentation (you will find some info on images) and the community wiki pages (which have a couple of examples on how to create images from ISO), or you can search for documentation on how to create images for EC2.
