Hi,

For my work I would eventually need to migrate VMs from one cluster to another...what would it take to support this? Or as a part of the current architecture would it take to get it going...

sorry for asking so many questions..we are just new to the platform and curious to explore it further...

thanks a lot!

Hello, as of now Eucalyptus

Hello,

as of now Eucalyptus does not support VM migration: you can search the forum for more detail explanation why we don't at the moment. It's unclear how long would it take to support migration: some mechanism in the hypervisors are been put into place, but migrating EBS, Elastic IPs etc ... could be challenging.

May I ask what's the need for live migration? do you need the instace to stay up at all time? Would a quick suspend and resume works? We don't have either mechanism at this time, just exploring the need for migration.

cheers

Hi

Thanks Graziano for the inputs...as far as live migration goes...we were intending to setup clusters at remote ends of a data center and as per need clone VMs , copy data in advance across local/remote stores and migrate virtual machines to have uniform resource utilization across the data center. we are intending to use a cloud computing platform to serve the above need.

We are also intending to add VM migration support to Eucalyptus...but have not really been able to do it...and have a similar understanding of what it would take as you mentioned above and also mentioned else where on the forum...

Really appreciate the insight and kudos for all the good work you guys are doing :)

thanks!
