Greetings,
We are pleased to announce the availability of Eucalyptus Version
1.5.1, the latest stable version of Eucalyptus. Version 1.5.1
supports the same features as the Ubuntu 9.04 release of Version 1.5
but fixes several bugs that were discovered after the 9.04 code
freeze. In addition, this release is packaged for CentOS, openSUSE,
and Debian, as well as Ubuntu and includes distribution-specific
default configurations.
=== New Features at Version 1.5 ===
Eucalyptus version 1.5.1 incorporates several new features and
improvements. Most significantly, it introduces the availability of an
Elastic Block Store (EBS) compatible system for dynamically managing
block storage devices. Also, we have added support for the KVM
hypervisor in addition to Xen.
The following summarizes the changes from version 1.4:
* EBS-compatible block storage system. Users can now create block
volumes, dynamically attach/detach them to running VMs at runtime, and
create snapshots of volumes.
* KVM hypervisor support. Eucalyptus now supports both Xen and KVM
transparently, and provides better VM Type management for VM images.
* Added a new networking mode that enables elastic IPs and security
groups, without relying on software VLANs.
* Added the ability to run Eucalyptus as a non-root user.
* Improved web-based interface for cloud configuration.
* Improved VM transfer and caching performance.

=== Other News ===
Since the last release, we have moved the open-source support website
to a new location (http://open.eucalyptus.com), and have maintained
the original location so that old links still work. The new site is
much faster, and includes a brand-new forum that brings many new forum
features to users such as the ability to subscribe to topics, better
thread navigation, and improved search.
We would to sincerely thank everyone who is a part of our user
community for helping us through active forum discussions and shared
experiences. We hope you enjoy this latest version of Eucalyptus and
look forward to hearing from you soon!
Best regards,
The Eucalyptus Team
