Greetings Intrepid Eucalyptus Acolytes,
Largely in response to feedback we have been receiving, we have released Version 1.2 via the web site. In case it isn't handy, the site is
http//eucalyptus.cs.ucsb.edu
Version 1.2 is not so much a feature release as one that fixes bugs and improves the installation and maintenance prospects for the system. It includes downloads in both Rocks binary and source bundles, as before, and also 'stand alone' RPM packages (new at Version 1.2).
First, before going any further, we the Eucalyptus Team, would like to again thank all of you who have taken the time to give us your feedback. Version 1.2 is primarily a bug fix release over 1.1 in terms of stability, configuration flexibility and performance. We have resolved all of the known bugs from 1.1, thus providing a more stable long term Eucalyptus installation with many users and registered VM images.
In addition to the Rocks V roll and source 'tar balls', we have packaged the system as a set of RPM packages for installing Eucalyptus on non-Rocks RPM based systems. We have implemented several performance enhancements including a new VM image caching scheme that greatly reduces instance creation time. Finally, we have added more instance networking configuration options to match the variety of target Eucalyptus platforms that have been springing up since our last release.
Again, we would like to thank everyone who has provided feedback, both directly and through the public forum as well as the users who have been experimenting with the Eucalyptus Public Cloud (EPC). Your feedback has been an invaluable asset to the project both in terms of design guidance and inspiration. Thanks one last time for your interest in the Eucalyptus project.
The Eucalyptus Team
