The Eucalyptus engineering team is currently preparing the next release of Eucalyptus (2.0) open source for summer 2010. This next version integrates new features into Eucalyptus, including S3 versioning, Virtio support, iSCSI support, and new administrator tools. While this development was taking place, we temporarily reassigned the machines we had been using to create and QA “nightlies” to development and, as a result, we weren't able to generate them as frequently as we had hoped. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our technical support team however, we will soon have a dedicated system for nightly builds and QA. Our plan is to resume nightly builds following the upcoming release of Eucalyptus 2.0. We are sorry for this delay.
Please become involved in the Eucalyptus community (see our Participate page for details) and thanks for your patience.
The Eucalyptus Community Cloud is a sandbox environment in which members of our community can testdrive and experiment with Eucalyptus, a software framework for cloud computing. The Eucalyptus software implements what is commonly referred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). Community members can launch their own isolated collections of virtual machine instances and exercise the full capabilities of the latest version of Eucalyptus (currently v1.6.2).
This community cloud is hosted at Coresite (http://www.coresite.com/) within their Los Angeles facility, resides on HP (http://www.hp.com) equipment, and is accessible via InfoRelay's (http://inforelay.com) networking fabric. Once connected, you will be able to utilize command-line tools, use third-party software that interacts with Eucalyptus, build images, and run these images, etc.
We invite community members to signup and testdrive Eucalyptus via our Community Cloud!
The Eucalyptus Public Cloud (EPC) is a sandbox environment in which members of our community can testdrive and experiment with Eucalyptus. To date, we have created approximately 3,800 accounts on the EPC. Although this sandbox environment, which has been graciously hosted by UCSB, has served us well, we realize that this environment is not sufficient to address the growing needs of our community. Hence the EPC is being replaced with a much larger system.
On May 31, 2010, the Eucalyptus Community Cloud will be released. This community cloud is hosted at Coresite (http://www.coresite.com/) within their Los Angeles facility, resides on HP (http://www.hp.com) equipment, and is accessible via InfoRelay's (http://inforelay.com) networking fabric. Community members will be able to experience the latest version (v1.6.2) of Eucalyptus as they testdrive our new system. Users will need to apply for an account on the Eucalyptus Community Cloud via the same process used by the EPC. (The administrative GUI for the Eucalyptus Community Cloud will be published on May 31, 2010.)
Current EPC users should also note that the EPC is being decommissioned and will be shutdown on July 1, 2010. We encouraged all users to backup any data that they may have on the EPC.
Well, not quite, but soon: Nebula, NASA's Eucalyptus-based infrastructure
cloud, has graduated from pilot-project status at Ames Research Center in
California to a NASA agency project with a second site at the Goddard Space
Flight Center near Washington, D.C.
According to NASA CTO Chris Kemp, Nebula's IaaS (Infrastructure as a
Service) capabilities will now be deployed on both west and east coasts in
support of "disruptive innovation projects," with a focus on enterprise
architecture and ongoing development of a new breed of federal web portals
for White House CIO Vivek Kundra's technology team. Read the full article

The Eucalyptus Public Cloud (EPC) is a sandbox environment in which members of the our community can testdrive and experiment with Eucalyptus. Eucalyptus is an open source software framework for cloud computing that implements what is commonly referred to as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The EPC, via the Eucalyptus software, provides users with the ability to run and control isolated collections of virtual machine instances with many EC2/S3-compatible tools.
The EPC is currently hosted at UCSB, which is the birth place of Eucalyptus. Over the past year, we have had over 2,000 individuals register for accounts on the EPC. These users can exercise the full capabilities of Eucalyptus, which includes utilizing command-line tools, using third-party software that interacts with Eucalyptus, building images, running these images, etc.
Due to the popularity of the EPC, Eucalyptus Systems Inc. is in the process of deploying a larger Eucalyptus Public Cloud (EPC). The new EPC will be located at a start-of-the art colocation facility, will reside on the latest hardware, and will feature the most recent version (v1.6.2) of Eucalyptus.
